Bet types - Related bets

Multiple and accumulative bets are normally only permitted where the selections are independent of each other. Where one selection has a bearing on another selection, the bets are not normally allowed. For instance, you wouldn’t be permitted to bet on Liverpool to beat Manchester United and Liverpool to beat Manchester United 2-0 as a double, since the two bets are intrinsically linked.

Nor would you be able to bet on Tim Henman to win his semi final of Wimbledon, and Tim Henman to win Wimbledon as a double, since the result of the first part of the bet has a bearing on the possibility of the second part of the bet.

The reason that this type of bet is not permitted, is down to the fact that the multiplication of single odds for related predictions does not give mathematically correct multiple odds. The hassle of having to recalculate the related odds means that most bookmakers simply refuse to take multiple bets on related selections. That said, there are times when a bookmaker may advertise a special double, or some other offer where the related odds have already been taken into account.

If related selections are accepted in an accumulative bet in error, the wager is normally settled by treating each selection separately.
